Could we define Candies as a cult-band? Actually, Giulio Calvino & Co. have gained lots of respect, working for years with a fresh DIY attitude, sharing stages of venues all around Europe with 90 Day Men, Calexico, Trumans Water, L7, L'altra, ABPK, Enon, New Black, Xiu Xiu and more. Friendship and mutual consideration have been the ground for the collaborations with John Convertino, Volker Zander and Kevin Branstetter (Trumans Water) for the first album Leaving our Homes (ee:lettro/Turn - 2000).
These major experiences, of course, have changed the band's desires and approach.
With Dense Waves... Candies shed their skin, and the new look shines of the restlessness, the frenzy and the directness that make a great rock'n'roll band truly great. Better still, a punk rock band, according to the meaning of this word that Gang of Four, Television, Fall, Primal Scream and Fugazi perpetuated. Candies themselves would be surprised by these comparisons, as they felt coming from the inside this newfound drive for physical and mental freedom.
Their brand new tracks were born in isolation, and nevertheless they caught vibes that are going to be around in 2003. The actual truth is that you can't listen to this album with your ears only: the youthful pop of Basslines for your Fucking Grave infect your nerves and legs, the chemical groove of Device Power goes straight to your stomach and the infectious tune of Like Tennis Shoes is going to be stuck onto your head forever. Candies disbanded early 2005, 'causing more than one regret, but the new adventure of Giulio with Hot Gossip is just a confirmation of a restlessness common to every good musician.

Certamente Giulio Calvino & Co. si sono conquistati seguito e riconoscimenti lavorando in piena etica DIY su un progetto che li ha portati a macinare oltre 150 concerti, e a condividere i palchi delle venues di Italia e mezza Europa con 90 Day Man, Calexico, Trumans Water, L7, L'altra, Feverdream, Ulan Bator, Horace Pinker, Atombombpocketknife, Enon, Xiu Xiu, nonché a far parte del cast del Tora! Tora! Festival 2003.
E sulla reciproca stima e amicizia sono nate le collaborazioni con John Convertino, Volker Zander e Kevin Branstetter (Trumans Water) per Leaving our Homes (ee:lettro/Turn - 2000).
Con Dense Waves i Candies hanno tirato fuori la propria natura di punk-rock band, un'attitudine più che uno stile, la stessa di nomi come Gang of Four, Television, Radio 4, Fugazi. La loro non è musica da ascoltare con le sole orecchie: il pop acerbo di Basslines for your Fucking Grave contagia i nervi e le gambe, la frenesia del chemical groove di Device Power va dritta allo stomaco, i versi infetti di Like Tennis Shoes sembrano nati per incollarsi ai timpani. Lo scioglimento, a inizio 2005, ha causato in molti dispiacere, ma la nuova avventura di Giulio Calvino con gli Hot Gossip non fa che confermare la sana irrequietezza che ogni vero musicista dovrebbe possedere.

Adriano Celentano is a kind of italian living freak legend. An ecologist before the word was in use, an hippie that payed Jesus Christ-like roles in blockbuster films conceived and directed by his Clan, a pacifist who sang contagious rock'n'roll anthems improvising non-sense rhymes in fictious english.
The Candies and Chicago's Atombombpocketknife (Southern Rec.) pay tribute turning upside down two of his songs, drenching them with walls of guitars and nervous drums in today's best r'n'r style.

I Candies e gli Atombombpocketknife (indimenticato trio di Chicago su Southern Rec.) alle prese con due tracce, la celeberrima 24milaBaci e l'oscura Napoleone, il Cowboy e lo Zar, ripescate direttamente dagli inossidabili anni '60 di Adriano Celentano, quando la Tv di Stato regalava ancora sprazzi di pop culture memorabile, e i juke box macinavano rock'n'roll.
Un divertissement, più che un "tributo", nato quasi per caso e dato alle stampe in occasione del winter tour che ha riunito sui palchi italiani e svizzeri, a fine gennaio 2003, la band di Chicago e il trio di Varese.
L'Adriano (inter)Nazionale rivisitato nella più pura attitudine punk rock.
